Union Home Ministry issues key warnings regarding Rs.500 notes

Instead of ‘E’, ‘A’…..

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a ‘high importance’ alert regarding a new type of counterfeit Rs 500 currency note that has entered circulation. The alert, shared with key financial and regulatory institutions like DRI, FIU, CBI, NIA, SEBI etc, warns that the fake notes closely resemble genuine ones in terms of quality and print, making detection more difficult. It advised people to be vigilant regarding these notes. It has been revealed that information in this regard has been shared with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DIR), Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and market regulator SEBI.

Officials have clarified that the printing and quality of these counterfeit notes are similar to the original notes. It is said that it is not easy to detect fake notes, but has become very difficult. It said that the traitors who print these fake notes could not avoid a spelling mistake, and that identifying it is key. It has been revealed that the ‘E’ in the word ‘RESERVE BANK OF INDIA’ has been replaced with ‘A’.
It said that this mistake can be identified by examining the note carefully. It indicated that it would be clear whether it was a fake note or an original note. It is reported that these fake notes are circulating in the market on a large scale. It is stated that it is a very difficult task to identify the number printed on them. It advised people and businesses to be cautious about counterfeit notes.
