Dr V. Narayanan appointed as the new chairman of ISRO
Amaravati: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet announced on Tuesday that Dr V. Narayanan has been appointed as the new Chairman of ISRO. He will take charge on January 14. The current ISRO Chairman Dr S. Somnath’s tenure will end on January 13. ISRO’s new chairman Dr V Narayanan will serve in the post for two years. Till now he headed ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre. He has been working in ISRO for the last 40 years.
Narayanan has vast experience in rocket as well as spacecraft propulsion systems. A native of Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, Narayanan studied cryogenic engineering at IIT Kharagpur. In 2001, he received his Ph.D degree in Aerospace Engineering. Narayanan played a key role in the development of liquid, semi-cryogenic, cryogenic systems. He was instrumental in the development of GSLV MARK-2 and 3 launch vehicles, Aditya L1 and the propulsion systems of Chandrayaan 2 and Chandrayaan 3.
