PM Modi holds talks with Fijian PM on trade, defence sector growth
Amaravati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Fijian Prime Minister Sitthiveni Ligamamada Rabuka on Monday on various issues. It is reported that discussions were held on strengthening bilateral relations in areas such as trade and in vestment.Rabuka arrived in Delhi on Sunday for a three-day visit. The Fijian Prime Minister, along with the Minister of Health, Ratu Antonio Lalabalavu, as well as senior officials, are part of this high-level delegation.
The two countries have strong cultural and people-to-people ties. India’s relations with Fiji began in 1879 when the British took Indian workers to Fiji under a treaty.
Rabuka is visiting India after Indian President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to Fiji last year. Prime Minister Rabuka’s visit will further strengthen the long-standing and enduring ties between India and Fiji.
Fiji is an important country for India in the field of maritime security. India is looking to expand its defense ties with Fiji, amid China’s relentless efforts to expand its strategic power in the Pacific region.
