Amaravati: The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday passed a special resolution to mark the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency. A resolution was passed that democracy was destroyed by imposing emergency in the country. The cabinet initially observed a two-minute silence against the repression during the Emergency. Prime Minister Modi has asked Union ministers to explain the Emergency to the new generation. The cabinet approved three important proposals in the meeting.
Metro Line 2 has been allocated for the expansion of the metro in Pune, for which Rs. 3,626 crores have been allocated.
The Union Cabinet has approved Rs. 5,940 crore for the development of Jharia coal fields in Jharkhand and Rs. 111.5 crore for the establishment of an International Potato Regional Research Center in Agra.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the cabinet congratulated Shubhamshu Shukla for the success of the space mission.
Indira Gandhi’s Emergency in 1974:- Emergency was imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to destroy the spirit of the Indian Constitution. The Emergency Destruction began in 1974 with a brutal attempt to suppress the Navnirman Movement and the Total Revolution Campaign. The Union Cabinet observed two minutes of silence as a tribute to those who were deprived of their constitutionally guaranteed democratic rights and then had to face unimaginable horrors.
The Union Cabinet paid tribute to their exemplary courage and heroic resistance against the violations of the Emergency.
The Union Cabinet has opined that the year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the Constitution Day, which is an unforgettable chapter in the history of India. He said that destroying the Constitution is an attack on the spirit of India’s republic and democracy.
The Union Cabinet stated that federalism has been weakened and fundamental rights, human freedom and dignity have been suspended.
