JPC approved 14 amendments in Waqf Amendment Bills
Amaravati: The Joint Parliamentary Committee set up to examine the Waqf Amendment Bill approved the bill with several amendments on Monday. While the 14 amendments proposed by the BJP-led NDA were approved, at the same time the changes suggested by the opposition were rejected. After the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, Committee Chairman Jagdambika Paul revealed the details. Total 44 amendments were proposed and all the members were requested to suggest the amendments.. After holding comprehensive discussions for 6 months, the committee approved 14 amendments based on the decision of the majority of the members. Jagdambika Pal said that every amendment suggested by the opposition was put to vote, but 10 votes were received in support of the amendments suggested by them and 16 votes were against. The Center brought a bill in August 2024 bringing many changes in the Waqf Act-1995. Later, the consideration of the bill was handed over to the 21-member JPC.
