Huge amount of cash found in Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Verma’s bungalow

Amaravati: A huge amount of cash was found in the rooms of a high-ranking judge’s house, causing a sensation. Last week, a fire broke out at the official residence of Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Verma while he was away in Delhi. His family members informed the fire department and police. Fire crews who came to put out the fire were shocked to find bundles of banknotes in the rooms. The fire crew then brought the matter to the attention of higher authorities. The police suspected that all the money found there was unaccounted for cash to the government. The higher authorities informed the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court about this matter. Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna convenes collegium meeting after huge amount of cash found in judge’s house. It was unanimously decided to transfer Justice Verma back to the Allahabad High Court.
He served as a High Court Justice there until October 2021. It is reported that discussions are underway on the impeachment process, along with an order to investigate Justice Verma in the embezzlement case. Some judges in the collegium have expressed concerns that the transfer of Justice Verma will damage the reputation of the judiciary and erode public confidence in the judicial system. They demanded that Justice Verma resign voluntarily. If he refuses to resign, there is a possibility of impeachment proceedings being introduced in Parliament.
