Amaravati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in China on Saturday afternoon after concluding his visit to Japan to attend the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which begins in Tianjin on Sunday.
Prime Minister Modi was given a red carpet welcome at Tianjin Airport. It is rare for a country’s prime minister or president to be welcomed with a red carpet at the airport. Prime Minister Modi’s step into China after almost seven years has taken on significance.
After 7 years: This is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to China after 2018. His visit to China marks another step in improving India-China relations, which deteriorated in 2020 after clashes in the Galwan Valley. The SCO – a regional security grouping – summit is underway in New Delhi, with US President Donald Trump’s trade war and imposition of a 50% tariff.
On the US’s tariff threats: – Russian leader Vladimir Putin will host other leaders. This summit will be a show of force against the US tariff war against China and India. However, sources say that there will be no trilateral meeting. Modi-Putin-Jinping will appear on the same stage. No clear details are known about the one-on-one meeting between Modi-Putin-Jinping.
