Sandanand Vasant Date as Director General of NIA-Mumbai 26/11 Hero
Amaravati: Amid the growing threat from terrorists in the country, Sadanand Vasant Date has been appointed as the new chief of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is actively involved in arresting terrorists and putting them behind bars. Union Home Ministry on Thursday appointed Sadanand Vasant Date, who was the Chief of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Force (ATF) as Director General of NIA.
Dinakar Gupta, who is currently the Director General of NIA, will retire on March 31. Vasant Date, who has been appointed in his place, will continue in this post till December 31, 2026.
Vasant Date, a 1990 batch Uttar Pradesh IPS cadre, was instrumental in nabbing Ajmal Kasab and Abu Ismail, the prime accused of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He was working as Mumbai Additional Commissioner of Police at the time of the terrorist attacks..
