The presidential election started in Russia
Amaravati: Presidential elections in Russia will be held at 8 am local time in polling centers across the country for 3 days from today till Sunday. Four people are competing for the post of President along with Vladimir Putin. The person elected as President will rule the government for 6 years. Putin is contesting as an independent candidate. Liberal Democratic Party leader Leonid Slutsky, Communist leader Nikolay Karitonov, and liberal centrist Vadislav Davanakov are in the running. This is the first presidential election in Russia after the constitutional amendment in 2020. The constitution was amended to allow a candidate to hold the post of President twice in this election, which is held for a term of 6 years. Some voters cast their ballots online.
