Undertake leprosy prevention and awareness programs-Collector

Nellore: Collector ChakradharBabu has directed the officials to take strong measures to prevent leprosy in the district. On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary and Martyrs’ Day, Anti-Leprosy Day was organized under the auspices of District Health Department at Collectorate S.R Sankaran VC Hall in the city on Monday. On this occasion, the District Collector said that an action plan should be drawn up for the prevention of leprosy and tuberculosis in the district. It is suggested that large-scale sanitation programs, leprosy and tuberculosis awareness programs should be carried out in coordination with all the government departments across the district and extensive medical examinations should be conducted. Also, awareness programs on the prevention of leprosy and tuberculosis should be carried out in all the educational institutions so that the family members of the students can concentrate on their health, he said. Gram sabhas should be organized in villages under the supervision of sarpanchs to create awareness among the people about the prevention of diseases. Later, the District Collector unveiled pamphlets to create awareness about the prevention of leprosy. District Medical Health Officer Dr. Penchalaya, District Tuberculosis Prevention Officer Dr. Venkata Prasad, ZDP CEO Chiranjeevi, DRDA PD Sambasiva Reddy, ICDS PD Mrs. Saujanya and other officials participated in this program.
