Downloading, viewing of porn videos fall under POCSO Act: Supreme Court

Amaravati: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a key verdict that activities like downloading and viewing of porn videos related to minors come under the POCSO Act. The Supreme Court has given this judgment in the matter related to the law to prevent sexual abuse of children. A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala set aside the Madras High Court ruling that downloading and viewing child porn videos was “not a POCSO offence”. The Supreme Court expressed the opinion that the Madras Court made a serious mistake in giving that judgment..The Madras High Court dismissed the charge against a 28-year-old man for downloading child porn videos on his mobile phone. The Supreme Court corrected the judgment. In its order, the Supreme Court said that criminal action should be taken against the concerned person.
