Pay 4.38 crore compensation imposed by NGT immediately-Supreme

Amaravathi: The Supreme Court has ordered the AP government to immediately deposit the fine imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for Purushottamapatnam Rs.2.48 crore and Pattiseema Rs.1.90 crore for the construction of the Polavaram project. A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice JK Maheshwari said that the other aspects of the NGT verdict should be implemented as is and the trial will continue only on the issue of compensation. Recently the National Green Tribunal has said that there are environmental violations in Polavaram as well as other projects. Heavy fines have been imposed for this. The state government challenged this in the Supreme Court.
