Relief for CM Shinde’s government in Supreme Court

Amaravati: The Supreme Court has issued a key verdict on the Shiv Sena crisis in Maharashtra. The Supreme Court overturned the decision of the then Maharashtra Governor and Speaker on the appointment of the Chief Whip and clarified that Uddhav Thackeray could not be re-appointed as the Chief Minister as he had not passed the test of confidence. Also, the Supreme Court did not intervene in the matter of disqualification of MLAs belonging to the Shinde community, and suggested that the Speaker should take a decision in this matter. CM Shinde got relief with Supreme Court’s verdict. The Supreme Court’s verdict has no effect on Shinde’s government in Maharashtra. At the same time, this judgment should be considered as a setback for Uddhav Thackeray’s faction. A broad bench of the Supreme Court will decide on the role of the Speaker during the political crisis.
