The phase of Covid is not completely over yet–Union Health Minister

Amaravati: Keeping in view the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in some countries, Union Health Minister Mann Sukh Mandavia reviewed the situation with experts and officials on Wednesday. The concerned authorities have been directed to strengthen surveillance as the Covid phase is not yet fully over. He said that he is ready to face any situation in India. About 35 lakh cases are being registered every week in China, America and other countries. By taking some advance precautions, new variants can be identified and public health can be protected.

In June itself, the central government issued key instructions to all states and Union Territories. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written letters stating that there is a need to analyze the complete genome sequence of positive samples to detect new variants of the virus. The samples which tested positive for Covid were asked to be sent to the Sars Cov-2 Genomics Consortium testing centers every day. Currently active cases in the country are less than 4 thousand.

Indians need not worry:- In an interview to a media outlet, former director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Dr. Randeep Guleria assured Indians that there is no need to worry too much in the wake of reports of rising cases of Covid in China. Noting the developments in China and Italy, they said that in the past they felt that over-preparation is better than under-preparation, and it has done well. He said that this was possible due to the coordination between scientists, clinicians and policy makers.
