Officials are demolishing damaged houses in Joshimath

Amaravati: Officials started demolition of cracked houses and hotels in Joshimath town of Uttarakhand state on Tuesday. Uttarakhand Chief Secretary SS Sandhu has issued an order to demolish unsafe structures under the supervision of scientists. Joshimath residents were shifted to temporary living areas.. Cracks formed on the houses in Joshimath due to the subsidence of the earth. The number of cracked houses has reached 678.. So far around 100 families have been moved to safer places.. Officials put red cross marks on damaged houses.

Financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per month has been provided to the affected families from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has visited the affected areas and is personally monitoring the situation. CM has released an additional 11 crore rupees for security and rescue operations.
