Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first under-tunnel metro in the country
Amaravati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the first under-tunnel metro built in Kolkata in India. Prime Minister Modi, who flagged off the metro, asked the metro officials about the construction of the tunnel. Later, he traveled with the school students in the metro. Under the Kolkata East-West Metro Corridor scheme, this tunnel railway line was constructed under the Hooghly River at a cost of Rs.120 crores. This under tunnel metro route is 16.6 km long and 10.8 km underground. In this project, a 520 meter long underwater metro tunnel has been constructed as part of the 4.8 km long line between Hawda Maidan and Esplanade stations.
A metro train covers this distance in the river in 45 seconds. This tunnel was built 16 meters below the river bed and 32 meters deep underground.
