Amaravati: The country is likely to receive below normal rainfall in 2023 due to the influence of El Nino, private weather agency Skymet has predicted. It is said that the possibility of El Nino is increasing in Asia, which will have a severe impact on the monsoons. The Meteorological Agency has predicted that the monsoon season from June to September will be below normal by 868.6 mm. Impact of El Nino on the country:- Depending on the intensity of El Nino there may be changes in weather.. It may affect many parts of India. It seems that it is likely to lead to drought conditions, especially in the southern and western regions. Records show that there will be a significant impact on agriculture at the same time. About half of the country’s agricultural land depends on the rains that fall between June and September. Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, known as the agricultural “bowl” of North India, are expected to receive less than normal rainfall. Untimely rains and hailstorms have already damaged crops such as wheat grown in winter in fertile north, central and western parts of India. Thousands of farmers suffered losses due to this.

Abnormally hot or cold conditions are recorded on the surface of the Pacific Ocean along the equator. Such phenomena are known as the El Nino Southern Oscillation System (ENSO). ENSO conditions affect global temperature, rainfall.
