DGFT ban on import of laptops, tablets, etc.

Amaravati: Central government has taken a crucial decision. The Government of India issued a notice on Thursday imposing an immediate ban on the import of laptops, tablets and personal computers. Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued eNotices.. All-in-one personal computers or ultra small form factor computers, including computers purchased from e-commerce portals through post or courier, are being imported, it said. The central government has taken this decision to give support to industries under the Make in India programme.
This decision will benefit domestic manufacturers who are continuously producing their units in the country, supplying domestically and exporting to other countries and foreign companies manufacturing domestically. Currently, India’s largest trade deficit is with China and the US. The Indian government imposed this ban keeping China in mind.
