In case of gender determination tests, strict action-Collector

Nellore: The District Collector K.V.N said that sex determination is a crime and strict action should be taken against the perpetrators. Chakradhar Babu ordered the medical officers. District Level Multi Member Appropriate Authority Meeting on Implementation of PC & PNDT Act-1994, ART, and Surrogacy Act was conducted by Collector and concerned committee officials at Collector Camp Office on Friday. The Collector inquired about the performance of fetal sex determination tests and scanning centers being conducted in the district. The Collector directed to keep a constant vigil on the scanning centers and check the records. He clarified that even asking for gender determination is against the law. Due to various reasons, surrogacy system is also spreading in recent times and it is suggested to keep a vigil on this too. District Collector and Medical Officers have been directed to carry out full scale awareness programs and take up large scale publicity program while taking appropriate steps to prevent pregnancy sex determination by coordinating the concerned departments. The Collector suggested that medical officers should pay special attention to family planning, especially in tribal areas and remote areas, medical officers and voluntary organizations should conduct awareness programs.
